Bimini Bait Shack, a fun seafood restaurant, tiki bar and grill with the theme of the tropical paradise of the islands of the Bahamas, sustained major damage from Hurricane Ian but survived surprisingly well and is now working steadily toward recovery and reopening in the new year.
Bimini Bait Shack Hurricane Damage
Bimini Bait Shack, which is located in Fort Myers, right before the Sanibel Causeway, endured the brunt of Hurricane Ian's damaging category 4 winds and historic catastrophic storm surge. Since the restaurant sits on poles about 16 to 20 feet high, though, it was spared the worst of the devastating 9-10 foot storm surge that swept through that area of Punta Rassa on September 28, 2022.
According to the restaurant's general manager Amy Lawrence speaking with Gulfshore Business, “Everything that was damaged on the inside was either caused by roof damage or the wind.”

"We made it out to the restaurant today.
We did have to clear the check point set up 1 mile before Bimini Bait Shack.
We were greeted by an extremely friendly group of sheriffs, most from other Florida counties, but 1 from Lee county and she was so excited to see us come out to check on the building.
he road to Bimini is one sided with the 2 lanes available. The road leaving Bimini has washed away.
My friends, we did take a hard hit.
The good news? We should be able to start the clean up process very soon!
he inside of the restaurant has minimal damage. All our garage doors did their job and did not buckle under the pressure from the storm.
We did get some water in the restaurant… most likely from the sideways style rain getting under the doors. There are crews working day and night to restore the Punta Rassa boat ramp as well.
All of your kind words and heartfelt well wishes are thoughtful, humbling, and encouraging.
This is how we left Bimini today, we left showing our pride for our state and country for all the first responders and volunteers who have poured in to our community from near and far to assist in anyway they can."
